 Covid-19 for April 30/20 update

Photography / studio photography

The studio is not open nor do I have any idea on a date that I will be open. As I have no idea when this will be over I am not booking any photo sessions at this time and all sessions till the end of May are now cancelled. I would be happy to take your information and when we get an all clear I will call you to book.

Photography Courses

All in person photography courses are cancelled till the end of May. Courses are now available on-line. Click here to see my courses.

Printing & Restorations

The printing department is now open!! Supplies are in stock and some more are coming in to top everything up. A couple frame suppliers are closed but I have good stock on most sizes and types. Files can be sent online (I can help you with a couple different programs to easily do this), once the order is done then I will send an invoice that you can pay by Etransfer or Paypal. When you come to pick-up your work call me when you are at the studio and I will put your order outside on the table. (You cannot come into the building). Delivery also available for an extra charge.

Customer service

I am known for my customer service and this will continue even with Covid-19. You have two options to continue this. First you can send in your files and I will adjust and print for you. All images will be corrected to professional image standards. You will get the best possible image from the file that you send in. Or if you like I can do the editing for you while you watch on-line. This way you can see the changes and the cropping that I will be doing. The viewing program is free to use but you must have either Internet or data to take part in this.

Copy Work

My new copy work system is up and running!! I do hundreds of copies each month – from old photos to new art work. For individuals to artists. I have been working for the past year to improve my copy work so NOBODY can touch the quality that I do. After extensive testing and tweaking I am happy to say that my new copy system is up and running and the results are amazing.

I do work for clients from all over western Canada who are looking for amazing print copies or digital copies. This new system will put me even further in the lead!!!

Truer colors, less reflections and glare.

Digitize your original artwork, old family images and more.

More information on my copy and restorations

Do you need a photo restoration? I have been doing photo restorations for over 25 years. I am the only restoration company in southern Alberta that was trained by Adobe in image editing and restoration.

If you want prints of your restored images I use special archival paper for long term permanence.

Paterson Photography can handle original prints from wallet size to life size. Unlike many places I have no size limit on digitizing original prints.

At Paterson Photography I do work for may individuals and companies and I can restore one image or thousands.

History

History is not as boring as school makes it out to be!

Many times over the years when I have been either taking pictures, editing or printing I think about how what I do today would look to those that have gone before us. Not only in the photography business but also in the printing business.

What would a photographer from the 1900’s up to the 1970’s think of the cameras of today. Even the cameras that we had to shoot during the last years of film photography. What would photographers up to the late 1980’s think about digital. Or my big one what would people think about the digital editing and printing that we can do now. I tell people that if I could go back in time 50 years or more with my computer and my printer I could own the printing industry. Both for photographs and for printing of signs, posters, etc. I could do so much. With today’s equipment I would be able to do retouching & print jobs that were unheard of in years gone by. Or jobs that took days to do I could do in minutes.

Searching for my history

After my father passed away I was going through a pile of old papers he had and found some information on my grandfather. My grand father on my father’s side passed away when my dad was just a young boy. I knew very little about him but I did have the blessing to come across some military records for him. As I was reading them I found out something that was SHOCKING!!! My grandfather was a printer early on in life. Later on I found more documents that lead me to believe after he came back from the war that he was still a printer.

From my families history a military record
My grandfather’s military information

I wonder what it would be like to work along side of him printing a book in the way he did or print a poster advertising an event. Then being able to show him what I can do now. Need a poster for advertising – it would take a printer back in the 1900’s the better part of a day to layout and print. Today I can do it in a few minutes and I can make changes in seconds. Or showing someone like Ansel Adams how I could retouch, adjust and print photos in minutes that would take his darkroom tech days!

Today will be tomorrow’s history

The saying is true that history does repeat itself. I also wonder if my grandson or a great grandchild will ever go into the photography or printing trade? What will they have for technology in the future that I could only dream of today or more so I could not even think of today. It is cool to think about!
