Artwork Digitizing Services: From Small to Extra-Large

Looking to reproduce your original artwork? Whether you need artist proofs, limited edition prints, or beautiful Giclée reproductions, I offer professional artwork digitizing and copying services for pieces of any size—from small originals to oversized masterpieces.

With over 40 years of experience, I specialize in high-quality fine art reproductions. I’ve worked with artists, galleries, and museums across Alberta—including Calgary, Medicine Hat, Red Deer, Edmonton, Lloydminster, Fort McMurray, Crowsnest Pass, and Pincher Creek—as well as clients in BC, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, and the United States. My process is designed to faithfully capture the color, detail, and character of your original work.

All digitizing is done in-house in a climate-controlled studio to ensure your artwork remains safe and secure. I also offer same-day digitizing, so there’s no need to make multiple trips—and your artwork never leaves your sight.

Whether you’re building your portfolio or preparing prints for sale, I’m here to help you bring your art to life with color-accurate, professional reproductions you’ll be proud to share.

Resolution

Does Higher Resolution Always Mean Better Artwork Digitizing?

When it comes to digitizing artwork, one of the most common questions I get is about resolution. Many clients assume that bigger file sizes—like 200GB or even 800GB—automatically mean better quality. But the truth is, “bigger” isn’t always better when it comes to digital files.

While higher resolution can be helpful for large artworks, applying the same ultra-high standards to something small—like a 4×4-inch piece—is usually overkill. Not only do massive files become difficult to store and manage, but the benefits are often minimal. In fact, over-enlarging a small piece can actually highlight things you might not want emphasized, such as uneven pencil strokes, paper texture, brush marks, or even tiny specks of dust.

My standard approach is to digitize artwork at 300 DPI at its original size. For very small pieces, I may use a slightly higher resolution to allow for moderate enlargements. For larger works, a slightly lower resolution is often more practical without sacrificing quality. The key is to balance detail and clarity with file efficiency—delivering files that are perfect for reproduction, without unnecessary bulk.

How big can I print?

How Large Can You Print Your Digitized Artwork?

Just like with file resolution, the maximum print size you can achieve depends on several factors. As a general rule, you can safely double or even triple the original size without noticeable loss in quality. In many cases, it’s possible to go even larger—but I prefer to set realistic expectations rather than promise extreme enlargements that may not deliver the best results.

One common misconception is judging file quality by zooming in to 100% on a computer screen. This often leads artists to believe the image is lower quality than it really is. What you’re seeing on-screen relates more to file resolution and your monitor’s settings than the true physical dimensions of the artwork.

The most accurate way to assess quality is by printing the image at—or close to—the original size. This eliminates screen-based distortions and gives a true sense of how the final reproduction will look.

If you’re unsure about how large you can go with your artwork, I’m always happy to review your file and give tailored recommendations.

I have been doing photo restoration for over 40 years. I am the only art and photo restoration company in southern Alberta that was trained by Adobe, Epson, Kodak and Fuji in image editing and restoration. Restorations are a full time job, not a side job.

I can take your old slides, negatives, prints and copy, print or fully restore them. Images from back as early as the 1800’s all the way up to today. From tiny prints the size of a dime to images 30′ high.
