Harvest moon

Shine on Harvest moon……

The harvest moon is one of my least favorite full moons, it means that the warm weather is coming to an end. But with the nice weather I still went out and did some pictures of it last night. I first planned my shoot using The Photographer’s Ephemeris to see where the moon would rise. For some reason it was way off and I ended up in an area that did not work. Not a big deal as the clouds were covering the first part of the rise so I relocated to get the moon as it was coming out of the low clouds.

I have shot a lot of full moons and I get bored with the same old shots. So I knew that I wanted to play with this moon in a different way.

The first shot that I wanted to do would not work without some help from editing. I wanted to do a shot of the moon rising over a local grain terminal. I also wanted it to be a grainy shot, more like a painting then a photograph. So I shot the elevators 10 minutes before the moon rise. Then I shot the moon as it came up and put them together. I use to do this type of shot years ago with film and it was a pain!! With digital it is so much easier.

The next set of shots I did not plan out. I wanted something out of the ordinary with the moon. After relocating to a second location I found what I wanted. I call these shots building a full moon as the moon was not completely full at this time. Plus it looks like a construction site.

My Van – White Turtle III

Whenever I am out shooting I usually don’t take pictures of my van as I am shooting other things. Last night I decided that I would take some van pictures while I was shooting the just past full moon. It is funny as my van is with me at most shoots but I never remember to take its picture. Like a house, you are grateful for the warm house but you never think about taking a picture of it.

It was cold, windy and got dark fast but having a warm location to work from is amazing. It is like I have my office or home with me. Lots of light and heat turns just about any situation around!

I need to add a computer to the set-up. But first I am waiting to see if I am going to rearrange anything. I have everything that I need now. But when I think I am done I see another RV with something different. I really don’t need a lot, just enough to be comfortable.

I do need to get my window screens cut for spring and summer. I also want to add a roof vent. Things are great for cold weather but once the bugs come out I need the screens.

The Moon Part 2

Another clear night to shoot the moon

Another clear night and more of the moon is showing. LOVE seeing the details. I really have to get myself a telescope with a camera mount to do some real close up pictures.

If you are looking for a good place to photograph the moon, I recommend Writing On Stone.

The Waxing Moon

A waxing moon is even more fun to shoot than a full moon. This time of year my taking of nature and wildlife pictures takes a back seat to printing and studio projects. I have been hoping for some northern lights to shoot but no go. I did have a chance to get out the other night to see the meteor shower but never had a camera with me. When I got back home the moon was so clear and bright that I had to take a few quick pictures.
