Writing on Stone spring visit

Join me as I travel to Writing on Stone for a spring visit!

Join me as I take a drive, and a early spring camping trip to Writing on Stone park. I LOVE Writing on Stone for so many reasons.  Although, I have a hard time saying I love the park in the heat of the summer as it gets so hot, but this time of year it is GREAT!!!

Writing on Stone spring visit & a almost full moon

Last weekend I found myself on the way to Writing on Stone with clear skies and almost a full moon.  The large moon was not the best for night shots of the stars but it would be great for seeing at night as I walked around the park after dark.

The sunset was okay. It would have been nice if there were a few clouds. BUT as warm as it was, and the fact there was no snow, it was great just to be outside after such a long winter!

Prairie Life

Before it got really dark I wanted to walk around and see what animals were out and about.  It is surprising in a place that is so hot and dry in the summer how many animals and plants live there.

Another place that I love at Writing on Stone is the old RCMP outpost.  Seeing it gets my mind wondering what it must have been like to be stationed there.

Things go chew chew in the night

Around 9:30 the sun was low enough that the stars started to appear, and so did I.  I had some supper and relaxed a little then headed out. As I took the first shot of the evening I took I could hear a strange noise that was coming from a nearby tree, After investigating it turned out to be a VERY hungry porcupine, a porcupine that would stay with me the entire night!  Not really scary as the night was so bright it looked like daytime, but strange when you have a porcupine that is following you.

The wind up top on the prairies was very strong, so some shots did not work out like I planned.  In the valley and with some care it worked out okay, but still would have been nice to not have any wind.  Around 2am the wind calmed down so it was back up top for some more pictures.

A night of shooting – Writing on Stone spring visit

This was a great way to spend a spring night shooting.  I will be heading back to Writing on Stone in a week or two when the moon is smaller.  Love the longer exposures with less moon light!  Here is hoping that the weather is as warm for that trip!
