Lethbridge River Bottom after a snow storm

The Lethbridge river bottom, lots of shooting potential close to home. Staying close to home can be a good thing some days!
In the dead of winter I sometimes just need to get out and take pictures. Recently after a huge dump of snow hit southern Alberta the Lethbridge river bottom seemed like a good place to head out to. It is close to home and my office. So I could head out easily without a lot of preparations.
No travel required to the Lethbridge River Bottom
The good thing with shooting close to home is that if the subjects are not cooperating you have not spent a lot of time and money driving. The other nice thing is that you can go back easily if you find a sweet spot.
Sometimes we feel that if we are not driving a long distance, making a major expedition out of it, that it is not as exciting. Well sometimes no matter how much you travel you will not find better photography subjects then a few minutes from home.
One of the residents of the Lethbridge river bottom are the Pheasants. They are there no matter what the weather. They are so colorful that they brighten even the dullest winter day.
So I grabbed a camera bag, some warm cloths and boots and headed out.

Well the Pheasants did not disappoint. There were a lot of them. Digging in the snow looking for food as well as staying close to shelter to stay warm.

This guy looked cold, and he was doing his best to stay hidden in the bushes but was not succeeding very well.

The females are not as colorful but I had to take some pictures of them as well as they were putting up with the crazy photographer bothering their feeding time.

SURPRISE IT IS NOT SPRING!!
It was a shock to me to see a gopher come out to explore, but I think it was more of a shock to the gopher. They say the early bird gets the worm, in this case the early gopher gets cold and snowy feet!!
