GREAT day of catch-up

A great day doing so many little projects and still working on one big project. Got some small house projects done. Took the dog for three long walks. Even as cold as it was today it felt nice to just be out. AND still working on updating the web site. The web site has had a lot of work done on it and in the process I have been pulling a lot of digital images in the files.

Ending a great day, looking at old images

Came across this one and I still love it. Old wagon wheel in my backyard. From 2005. I have a 24×30 print of it in the studio but was amazed to see how well the file holds up against even the newest cameras today for sharpness and clarity.

As a side note if you are looking for more teaching material I have added a number of files to the website under courses. You can read and even download and print for free. I will try to keep adding to this list as I write more blog posts, another thing on my to do list for 2019.

At least with it being so cold outside I am able to get these jobs caught up. Would not argue with a warm spell for a while as long as the winds stay down!

Mountain Frame

So this past Saturday I made another mountain frame. I like the ones without a back but I wanted this one to have a picture behind it, after all I am a photographer 🙂 Made the frame, stained and painted it and took it with me to the studio. Then I started going through my files to see what I wanted to put behind the mountain frame.

Found a really nice picture of Red Rock Parkway from this past summer. It was PERFECT!!! I resized and cropped it and was getting ready to print when I thought I should look at a few more and BINGO. I hit on the best picture yet for my mountain frames. My son and I were in Waterton this past fall and we stopped at Maskinonge. It was a perfect day with snow, blue skies and blue water. I shot a few dozen pictures and made a really cool pano, from that series one picture stood out and was saying I will look great in a mountain frame.

Now my issue is that I have another frame I don’t want to sell 🙂 Oh well as soon as it warms up I have another idea for a frame and will make another one like this one and try one with my new idea as well.

I like them without anything on the shelves

But I like them even more with items that have a significance to them.

Mountain shelf hung on the wall at the studio, I do like!!!!!

If you are interested in a mountain frame I do sell them. At this time I have three at the studio – two without pictures behind them and this one. This would look amazing in a den, living room, bedroom, office or cabin.

Boxing Day Brawl

Went out for boxing day and came across a major brawl, could not believe how these two fought. The special was half price on a really nice bush and they both wanted it!

Boxing day brawl
I saw it first!

It has been a good winter so far, a few crazy windy days but overall very nice. It is funny how the animals react to the weather. On windy days it is like all the animals moved out of the province or went into hibernation. A couple cold days do not seem to effect the animals, in fact they seem to like a few cold days. After a few cold days they change again starting to slow down and stay hidden more. Then once it warms up it takes a few days for them to start moving around again.

Boxing day brawl #2
I was closer to it

I didn’t want to put up with the boxing day brawl at the mall so I thought that I would head out to the river bottom and see what was happening. Not a lot of animals around, saw few birds, but the deer were everywhere. I wonder how the wolves, coyote and foxes do during a winter that is overall very mild. The deer look to be in really good shape as their food sources are not covered up like they were last winter and the winter before. If this keeps up the deer will be in really good shape come spring.

Boxing day brawl big hit!
It is MINE!!!!

Even our backyard feeders are not being used like they have been in the past couple of winters. Sure there are birds but not in the devouring herd like they have been for the last two years.

My Van – White Turtle III

Whenever I am out shooting I usually don’t take pictures of my van as I am shooting other things. Last night I decided that I would take some van pictures while I was shooting the just past full moon. It is funny as my van is with me at most shoots but I never remember to take its picture. Like a house, you are grateful for the warm house but you never think about taking a picture of it.

It was cold, windy and got dark fast but having a warm location to work from is amazing. It is like I have my office or home with me. Lots of light and heat turns just about any situation around!

I need to add a computer to the set-up. But first I am waiting to see if I am going to rearrange anything. I have everything that I need now. But when I think I am done I see another RV with something different. I really don’t need a lot, just enough to be comfortable.

I do need to get my window screens cut for spring and summer. I also want to add a roof vent. Things are great for cold weather but once the bugs come out I need the screens.

CASA Lethbridge

A quick shoot of CASA Lethbridge, Alberta building last night. PERFECT light for the look I wanted to get!

The snow and the blue sky give the picture a cold look while the light from inside warms the building up.

Writing on Stone

An afternoon trip to Writing on Stone this past weekend. It was overcast and cool but the colors were amazing!!! Love this park when it is not unbearably hot!

Writing on Stone
Looking south down to the river

Surprisingly there were a lot of people camping considering the weather was cool and damp.  But as usual as soon as you walk a few feet into the coulees you may hear the people but you seldom see them.  Not a lot of animals out this trip, saw a number of Pronghorns just outside the park but that was it.
