Another baby leaving home

Another baby ready to leave home. This one is heading to Montreal, QC. Got it all packaged up yesterday to get a shipping quote from Canada Post and find out it is 2″ to long for them to ship, so I have to repackage it. Then I have an artist at the studio today after I unpacked it that tells me that she ships larger prints with them. So frustrating that CP changes their requirements depending on where you ship from. Oh well, I will repack the print next week and try again.

Lethbridge High Level Bridge, another baby leaving home!

As an update, it took me two days of cutting up a box till it was the right size and was sturdy enough to ship my baby in. Got it all packed and took it in for a price quote on shipping. After the client approved the shipping price I then took it in to ship it and was told that the prices went up. Funny thing was that the cost to ship was less but the cost of insurance was more. So now it is on it’s way to Montreal and its new home. I am always nervous till the print arrives. Yes it has insurance but I don’t want the client to have to use it.

Safe trip my print!!!!!

Mountain Frame

So this past Saturday I made another mountain frame. I like the ones without a back but I wanted this one to have a picture behind it, after all I am a photographer 🙂 Made the frame, stained and painted it and took it with me to the studio. Then I started going through my files to see what I wanted to put behind the mountain frame.

Found a really nice picture of Red Rock Parkway from this past summer. It was PERFECT!!! I resized and cropped it and was getting ready to print when I thought I should look at a few more and BINGO. I hit on the best picture yet for my mountain frames. My son and I were in Waterton this past fall and we stopped at Maskinonge. It was a perfect day with snow, blue skies and blue water. I shot a few dozen pictures and made a really cool pano, from that series one picture stood out and was saying I will look great in a mountain frame.

Now my issue is that I have another frame I don’t want to sell 🙂 Oh well as soon as it warms up I have another idea for a frame and will make another one like this one and try one with my new idea as well.

But I like them even more with items that have a significance to them.

If you are interested in a mountain frame I do sell them. At this time I have three at the studio – two without pictures behind them and this one. This would look amazing in a den, living room, bedroom, office or cabin.

My photographic bucket list – The Marmot

The Yellow-bellied Marmot another subject on my bucket list

Marmot on the look out
Marmot on the look out

I have never written down a bucket list but I do have one or should I say two. Today I found something on one of those lists – a Yellow-bellied Marmot. Some days they seem to get longer as I hear of new subjects that I would like to shoot.  The reason that I have two bucket lists is that one list I try to keep realistic. Items on that list are accessible to me in western Canada, like the Yellow-bellied Marmot. On the second list I have items that are crazier like a lion in Africa, Penguins, Tigers, etc.

Spring Birds

Some of the spring birds I saw from a drive this past weekend.  East of Coaldale. It is amazing how one day you can look and not see a bird then the next day they are everywhere!

With all the fields flooding the returning birds are finding lots of open water to land in.  A REAL change from last year as last year even the lakes were drying up.  Many of my favorite birding spots have actually been dry for a few years.  Some in farmers fields have been turned back to producing farm land as they have dried up enough to get equipment in. My only concern is that this water is only a spring thing and birds will start to nest in the flooded fields and then they will dry up.

I am not one to say everything is a result of global warming but something sure has been playing havoc with the rain and heat patterns.

High Level Print

Another high level print done and ready to head out. It is like one of my babies is leaving for its new home!!! Love this view of the bridge!

This frame helps the bridge to stand out even more. The black outside of the frame plays off the black of the bridge. It is amazing how a picture looks so different in different frames. Even the thickness of the frame will make the print look so much different. I have framed this print many times in my classic black frame and lit looks great. This frame changes all that up!

Sign your prints?????

Another question that I get a lot is “Should I sign my prints”? and “How should I sign my prints with a real signature or printed digitally”?

Hand sign?

First let me say I DO NOT HAND SIGN MY PRINTS!!!!!!  Why? My signature is horrible!  I see so many artists with amazing signatures. Then there is my signature that looks like a bird flew over the print and dumped on it!  So for me a digital signature is the only choice.
