Red Rock Coulee – Great in all seasons!

If you are looking for an amazing road trip may I suggest Red Rock Coulee.  I have driven past on highway 3 a number of times and always wondered what was there, now I know. It is well worth the drive for a day or even if you want to stay in the area for a couple days.

Will be heading back that way soon for some more pictures and exploring!  Funny thing is that all the rock pictures that I took and I like the flower ones the best!

This place is amazing, a little out of the way and NO services. There is one broken picnic table and that is all the extras that are there. But it is well worth the drive. I do suggest that you go WELL prepared. When it is hot out this place is even hotter. If it is dry this place is drier. When it is cool this place is COLD!! There is no shelter to get out of the weather unless you hide behind a rock and they are not that big!

Getting great pictures!

Great picture

Getting a great picture is as much good fortune as anything.  I know many great photographers that understand their camera inside and out but they do not get any really great images.  I know other photographers that struggle to understand ISO and shutter speed but they get lots of great images. So why the difference???

Yellow-Headed Blackbird

Went out to photography the Yellow-headed Blackbird. Had a great day. The birds co-operated and the weather was amazing.

When I think of spring this is one of the birds that I think of.  They are loud, brightly colored and fun to watch. On top of all that they really don’t care if you are taking their picture.  So many birds once a person comes into their range they act differently.  Not these guys!!  They will sing and dance for hours!

Bird Photography

I love bird photography and cannot wait to get back to one of my favorite birding places – Frank Lake. I think most photographers have those places that we just love to shoot at and this is one on my list. Only problem is that I don’t want to leave as there are so many subjects to photograph.

There are so many bird species at Frank Lake that it is almost impossible to go for just one species. Each time I go I always think that I will only shoot one species and then another shows up and I am shooting that one.

Oh well there are worst things that a person could be doing for a couple of hours.

Writing on Stone

Writing on Stone in the spring!

I LOVE Writing on Stone for so many reasons.  I have a hard time saying that in the heat of the summer as it is so hot but this time of year it is GREAT!!!

Last weekend I found myself on the way to Writing on Stone with clear skies and almost a full moon.  The large moon was not the best for night shots but would be great for seeing at night as I walked around the park after dark.  The sunset was okay, it would have been nice for a couple clouds but again it was warm, no snow and great just to be outside after such a long winter!

Waterton – Spring has sprung – April 20 2018

Spring has Sprung

The first positive signs of spring finally started to appear and I decided that I should make a run to Waterton.  I also was hoping to spend the night in the new van so I thought that it would be a good chance to do both things at once. Environment Canada changed the  weather forecast just before I left on Friday advising of very strong winds all day on Saturday so the night in the van ended up being postponed.  This early in the year strong winds mixed with lots of snow in the bush and muddy trails was more than I wanted to deal with but that did not stop me from at least heading out for the day.
