Another GREAT Waterton Workshop

September 25 saw a Waterton Workshop about painting with light. The only thing that I can say is that I have never had such good weather in Waterton.  Started at 7pm and the class was suppose to go till 9pm and we finished well after 10!  The wind was not even a slight breeze. The temperature was in the mid 20’s and the subjects just would not let us finish.  It was so warm after the course at 11pm that many people were out walking, biking and boarding till after midnight.   Made for a great time for all in Waterton but a lot of tired people the next day!

Then on Saturday the winds came up but the temperature was great.  It allowed us to do the old stand by of The Tree & Cameron Falls as well as Jesse’s Falls, Cameron Lake and Red Rock Canyon.  With the early evening Red Rock was lite like I have never seen it, add to that the fact the water was low and it made for a great photo opportunity!

Search & Rescue Training

If you missed it southern Alberta was turned into a training ground this past weekend for Search & Rescue Training. Troops from the US and Canada took part.  3  – C130’s have been flying around dropping troops in training exercises.  It was my pleasure to get to photograph one of the drop zones.  It amazes me how anyone can hit a target when dropped from a plane, let alone hitting the target in southern Alberta winds!  I was at a remote location and got to see first hand how the military locates a crash area, determines wind speed and direction and then drops the troops feet from the crash scene.

You think it is impressive to see this at the air show, it is even more impressive to see it happen with full gear loads and with the plane circling overhead at very low altitude.

Great job to  everyone involved, here is hoping that you do not have to use this training anytime soon in real life.

TV & Papers

Several people have mentioned that they had seen some of my pictures on TV as well as in the Lethbridge Herald and the Calgary Sun.   Yes they were my pictures.  The story was about a plane crash south of Lethbridge on Sunday May 17.  They appeared on the front page of  The Calgary Sun and The Lethbridge Herald. As well as on Global TV and on the Lounge’s web site in Lethbridge.

I know the pictures that I take at a scene like this but when you see them in print or on TV it is always strange. Years ago I had a picture that ran across Canada. I was in Waterton the day it published and on my way back home I stopped and saw it on the front page of a number of papers. It took me a while to figure out that it was my picture.

Night Shoot

Well I have been trying to get out for a night shoot for some time. But with the weather being so cold I have been hiding inside like most people.  Last night was a great time to get out. The fact that I have been asked to do a workshop on night photography I needed to get some of the course written.  So out I went.  The weather was great, no wind and a good sunset made for some fantastic images.

Here are a couple of the images from last night.

Sunset Shoot

I love doing a sunset shoot. Most time I prefer a warm evening but you can not wait for perfect weather, sometimes you need to risk it. Well I don’t know if it is a case of cabin fever or I just need to shoot something but tonight I went for a walk to see what birds are around after the snow.  I saw a flock of Pelicans circling overhead earlier today but did not have any time to follow so I thought that just maybe they would be bedding down on the lake, no luck with the Pelicans but I did get some geese to cooperate.

Here are a few from tonight…
