Who is the instructor:
Mike started teaching classes back 20 years ago and started teaching photography classes through his studio 10 years ago! Mike was the first photographer in southern Alberta to offer courses at the studio and on location throughout the province. Many have tried to copy his lighthearted fun teaching style ~ but they have not succeeded! Today Mike can be seen teaching classes, leading photo safaris and expeditions, teaching photo editing and printing, computer use and much more.
"My desire is to not only take great pictures but to share my knowledge with others. So many people are struggling to get a grasp on digital photography that I could not just sit by and let people struggle, so I have expanded my teaching to allow more students learn the right way to take pictures."
From companies needing to get images transmitted around the world, to people wanting to improve their photography on a personal or a professional level. Mike is the only full time photographer teaching in southern Alberta and loves sharing his knowledge with others.
Mike has done just about everything in photography, he work for The Lethbridge Herald for many years and has had work published in Readers Digest, Alberta Report, The Calgary Sun and many, many magazines and publications. Mike has many of his nature and wildlife prints in private collections around the world.
Mike also covers weddings, grads, family portraits and commercial & industrial work. Mike has taught many students, teachers, photographers and graphic artists over the years how to take better pictures and get the most out of the equipment that they have and use.
Whether you have a starter point and shoot camera, or a top of the line DSLR, you will love the courses!

Mike's Experience
Cameras
Mike started out shooting 35mm color and B&W back in 1985, then moved to medium format in the early 90's, and to digital in the late 90's. Today Mike runs one of the most advanced studios around, utilizing 100% digital capture from a variety of digital cameras.
Printing
Mike has operated a number of high speed printers including Fuji and Noritsu, as well as a custom B&W darkroom. In the late 90's Mike moved into digital printing using a variety of printers from dyesub, thermal, laser and inkjet. Today Mike runs one of the most advanced wide format printers available, producing museum quality prints up to 44"x100" from a variety of media for individuals and companies across Canada.
Computers
Mike became involved early in computers and started teaching computers while he was still in High School. Always looking for ways to improve work flow, Mike now consults for a number of companies that design computer programs. Mike runs several networks around western Canada that keep his studio on the cutting edge of technology, enabling customers to access files from any place in the world, and allowing Mike to upload files in minutes to clients, even from remote locations.
Photoshop
Mike started using Adobe Photoshop back when version 5 came out. Quickly grabbing on to the program Mike was offered a chance to learn from one of the best schools in western Canada for Adobe Photoshop, Langara College. Shortly after this experience Mike took an extensive training course from Adobe's top Photoshop trainer in Canada and regularly updates his knowledge as opportunities permit. Mike not only teaches the program but uses it extensively in his studio.
Additional Products
Being a techno nut, Mike uses or has used a variety of hardware and software. From monitor calibration equipment, densitometers, high speed printers, PDA's, laptops, projection equipment, laminators, wide format printers and a lot more.

Mike, I just wanted to let you know that I very much enjoyed the workshop that I took with you. I have read many books and articles and that did not help. I was ready to toss the camera, even after spending so much on it, as I was always getting images that looked horrible.
The first couple of hours on camera settings helped me to "fix" all the things that were messed up with my camera, then the next two hours taking pictures was SO AMAZING!! I loved the different locations in Waterton and your enthusiasm for photography is inspiring!!
I would strongly recommend to everyone with a digital camera, whether they are just starting out or are a seasoned photographer to take one of you classes.
