Long Weekend

by Mike on Sep.02, 2010, under Camping & Photography Locations, Expeditions, Hints & Suggestions, Photography, Teaching

The long weekend is just about here, following are some tips to help you get the most out of your long weekend.

Remember drive carefully, have a great time and don’t forget to take the camera and take a lot of pictures!

Some quick camera tips:

Remember to charge your batteries

If you use a DSLR – check for dust on your sensor (and clean) before you head out

Download all your images to your computer and reformat your memory cards before you head out so you have lots of storage space.

Don’t forget a tripod or a monopod – it is getting darker earlier and you can get some great sunsets this time of the year.  Plus, you do not have to stay up till 11pm for them.

Keep an eye out for wildlife, they are getting ready for winter and are easier to spot this time of the year than in the summer.

Bakers

by Mike on Aug.17, 2010, under Exceptional Service

Well came back from the road trip through BC to have several loads of wash to do.  Started wash last Friday only to have our washing machine pack it in, on the first load.  So out we went to look for a washing machine.  After another stop we ended up at Bakers.  We have dealt with them before and have always been impressed with the service.  In fact we were in last month looking at dishwashers as ours didn’t seem to be working right only to have them tell us that if we added some salt to the dishwasher it would clean better ~ right they were a tablespoon of salt and dishes look much better (has to do with removing phosphates from the dish detergent).

Found out that a front load was not good for us and they showed us a machine that was half the price of what the front load was that we were looking at.  Add to that they included a dryer for very little more and I was very happy.  To top it off they had it delivered by 4pm and installed (we never bought it till 1)  and I was a very happy person.

GREAT job Bakers!  Prices were great, sales and delivery/ install service was fantastic and after 6 loads of wash I am now ready to hit the road again.

Red Rock Coulee

by Mike on Jun.28, 2010, under Camping & Photography Locations, Hints & Suggestions, Misc., Photography, Prints for Sale

Had a chance this past weekend to take a trip to Red Rock Coulee.  I have driven past on the highway a number of times and always wondered what was there, now I know.

This place is amazing, a little out of the way and NO services (one picnic table is all the extras that are there), but well worth the drive.

Will be heading back that way soon for some more pictures and exploring!  Funny thing is that all the rock pictures that I took and I like the flower ones the best!

Silver Automotive

by Mike on Jun.15, 2010, under Exceptional Service

For those that know me I am not a big mechanic, I would like to be but I just don’t have a spot to work on my vehicles.  That being said I do a number of small jobs and recently I needed to get some parts for my truck.  Went to a couple of places and was not able to get what I was looking for so I stopped in to silver Automotive to see if they could help. WOW was I impressed, not only did I get service but I got a lesson in the different parts that where available and that I could choose from.  They guy that helped me explained the differences, the prices and gave me his suggestion ~ I would say this went way beyond exceptional customer service.  I could make my decision based on facts and helpful input.  After purchasing the parts I actually checked into the information that I was given with a couple of other sources and everything that I was told was fact.

GREAT job, you can be assured that I will be back!

Waterton Course May 9 2010

by Mike on May.12, 2010, under Camping & Photography Locations, Hints & Suggestions, Photography, Teaching, Workshops & Tours

Thought that I would share some images from the Waterton course this past weekend.  It was a great time, a little cool and some snow (I love the spring snow).  On Friday it was so hot you could hear spring coming as the snow melted and the plants, trees and flowers were growing.  Saturday I think everything went back into winter mode for the day.  The GREAT thing about it was that it made for some fantastic waterfall pictures as the diffused light was amazing.

Looking forward to next months course in Waterton.
