Long Weekend
by Mike on Sep.02, 2010, under Camping & Photography Locations, Expeditions, Hints & Suggestions, Photography, Teaching
The long weekend is just about here, following are some tips to help you get the most out of your long weekend.
Remember drive carefully, have a great time and don’t forget to take the camera and take a lot of pictures!
Some quick camera tips:
Remember to charge your batteries
If you use a DSLR – check for dust on your sensor (and clean) before you head out
Download all your images to your computer and reformat your memory cards before you head out so you have lots of storage space.
Don’t forget a tripod or a monopod – it is getting darker earlier and you can get some great sunsets this time of the year. Plus, you do not have to stay up till 11pm for them.
Keep an eye out for wildlife, they are getting ready for winter and are easier to spot this time of the year than in the summer.

Had a chance to go through the lower park of BC in the last two weeks looking for locations to take tours and groups to, found some great locations. Here are some pictures from this trip.

Bakers
by Mike on Aug.17, 2010, under Exceptional Service
Well came back from the road trip through BC to have several loads of wash to do. Started wash last Friday only to have our washing machine pack it in, on the first load. So out we went to look for a washing machine. After another stop we ended up at Bakers. We have dealt with them before and have always been impressed with the service. In fact we were in last month looking at dishwashers as ours didn’t seem to be working right only to have them tell us that if we added some salt to the dishwasher it would clean better ~ right they were a tablespoon of salt and dishes look much better (has to do with removing phosphates from the dish detergent).
Found out that a front load was not good for us and they showed us a machine that was half the price of what the front load was that we were looking at. Add to that they included a dryer for very little more and I was very happy. To top it off they had it delivered by 4pm and installed (we never bought it till 1) and I was a very happy person.
GREAT job Bakers! Prices were great, sales and delivery/ install service was fantastic and after 6 loads of wash I am now ready to hit the road again.
Buyer Beware!
by Mike on Jul.24, 2010, under Camping & Photography Locations, Hints & Suggestions, Photography, Teaching, Workshops & Tours
Buyer beware – I have had a couple people contact me in the last month about photography courses. They mentioned that they had tried other “teachers” or had called them and where VERY upset with the information that they got.
Some of the people that are teaching are not professional photographers (some have just started to take pictures and decided to start teaching at the same time), some only have basic cameras (just bought an amateur kit camera), some are my previous students that are repeating what I have taught them and it seems that some are giving out some misleading information.
Before taking any course do your research, make sure that you are getting someone with some knowledge to share, not someone that is quoting from a book. Anyone that is teaching should have a very good base to start with (has used a number of cameras, lenses, flashes, etc., shot hundreds of thousands of pictures, many years of experience shooting for a living (not just snap shots when they have the time) and a very strong working photography knowledge!
If you have any questions about course, adventures, expeditions or more drop me an E-mail or call the office 403-327-1114
Red Rock Coulee

Had a chance this past weekend to take a trip to Red Rock Coulee. I have driven past on the highway a number of times and always wondered what was there, now I know.
This place is amazing, a little out of the way and NO services (one picnic table is all the extras that are there), but well worth the drive.
Will be heading back that way soon for some more pictures and exploring! Funny thing is that all the rock pictures that I took and I like the flower ones the best!
